Kapok is safe, cruelty-free, biodegradable, hypoallergenic, odor-free, uniform in density, moldable, and supportive. Kapok is a gigantic 200-foot tree forming the canopy of many tropical forests. Common throughout the tropics, great kapok trees can grow 13 feet yearly.

Kapok fiber is an all-natural, renewable, silk-like material harvested from the seed pods that fall from the tree. The renewable material is softer and lighter than down. The GOTS-certified organic kapok fiber in our pillows is sourced from Indonesia.

Advantages of Natural Kapok Fiber

Kapok has natural advantages as a pillow stuffing, especially over petroleum-based polyester/polyurethane foams. While some people may have an allergy to kapok, most people do not, making this a generally hypoallergenic alternative to latex and a vegan alternative to down.

  • Kapok is safe. It’s free of the potentially toxic materials in many foam pillows.

  • Kapok is cruelty-free and renewable. While collecting down feathers can be problematic, kapok is harvested from seed pods, so it is a renewable resource that doesn't come at the cost of trees or animals.

  • Kapok is a compostable and biodegradable resource that reduces waste.

  • Kapok is generally considered hypoallergenic.

  • Kapok has no discernable odor.

  • Kapok has a buoyant, uniform density and, when compressed, tends to spring back into its original shape.

  • Kapok is moldable and offers excellent support.
